Chris Slowey, MD of Northern Ireland-based haulier Manfreight, has successfully bid for a limited edition Volvo FH16-750 at a charity auction held as part of Volvo UK’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The vehicle, registration FH16 ONE, was on display at a gala dinner in Birmingham last week hosted by Jonathan Ross, with Volvo pledging all funds above the truck’s reserve price of £100,000 to charity.
Slowey’s successful bid of £220,000 meant the Craigavon-based operator’s chosen charity, Cystic Fibrosis, shared the subsequent donation of £120,000 with Transaid.
The FH16 features artwork by truck artist Matt Paint, showing important vehicles in Volvo’s 50-year history in the UK. There are also portraits of Jim Keyden and Jim McKelvie, who first brought Volvo trucks to the UK via their company Ailsa Trucks.
(L-R): Arne Knaben, Volvo Group UK MD; Chris Slowey, Manfreight MD; Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks Europe; and Jonathan Ross, gala dinner host.
