A new Schmitz Cargobull S.KO COOL temperature-controlled semi-trailer with an S.CU V2.0 cooling unit has joined Mark Steward Transport’s fleet.

Paired with a DAF XG+ tractor unit, the trailer will be used to transport frozen food to supermarkets across the country.

The Shropshire-based haulier also has another S.KO COOL unit and a Schmitz Cargobull box trailer. The new trailer is expected to cover 130,000km annually.

Owner, Mark Steward, said: “The S.KO COOL combined with the diesel-powered S.CU V2.0 cooling unit is exceptional, helping to reduce operating costs and improve the sustainability of the business.

“The MonoTemp version of the cooling unit allows us to maintain a consistent temperature throughout the trailer. What impresses most is the S.CU’s fuel savings of up to 15 per cent. It also runs quietly so it doesn’t affect drivers when they are overnighting in the cab.”

The diesel engine and generator combination means the latest generation of the S.CU V2.0 cooling unit lowers fuel consumption. When the trailer is partially full, the intelligent system controls cooling for minimal deviation from the cold storage temperature setpoint to improve efficiency.

Steward added: “I’ve used Schmitz Cargobull trailers for many years because of the build quality – the S.KO COOL is light, versatile and economical, offering fantastic load-securing options as well as freight security through the TrailerConnect telematics system.”

To ensure consistent, efficient temperature control, the S.KO COOL has robust connecting ducts for the S.CU cooling unit. This means temperature throughout the trailer body is kept uniform even when the trailer is not completely full. The unit has optimum heat output for quicker defrosting cycles. This MonoTemp trailer is also suitable for other applications like transporting pharmaceuticals, as is Schmitz Cargobull’s MultiTemp specification. Both options benefit from long maintenance intervals.
