Wayne Edwards has joined Mercedes-Benz dealer Marshall Truck & Van as its new head of business. Edwards, who started out in the industry 40 years ago as an apprentice truck technician, took up his new role at Marshall’s HQ in Fareham in January.

Edwards previously worked in senior management positions at various dealerships and was most recently dealer principal for a Renault franchised dealer in the Midlands. He replaces Daniel Stone, who has become divisional director at VW dealership Citigate Automotive.

“Until now, Mercedes-Benz has been a competitor. It’s an aspirational brand with which I’m very proud, finally, to be associated,” commented Edwards.

The opening in November of Marshall’s new purpose-built dealership on the Nursling Industrial Estate in Southampton, he added, demonstrated the company’s commitment to the highest level of service and back-up and had been “instrumental” in attracting him to the new position.

The two-acre site, developed at a cost of some £4m, sits opposite its old premises and features a large workshop and two-storey parts department.

Marshall Motor Holdings acquired the Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Mercedes-Benz Vans franchises for Hampshire and Dorset back in 2016, when it purchased Pentagon Commercials’ parent the Ridgeway Group for £107m.
