Wincanton has won a six-year £24m logistics contract renewal with Barbie-maker Mattel.

Logistics giant Wincanton will continue to be the toy manufacturer's sole UK distributor, operating from its Corby DC. It will deliver co-packing for Mattel goods and then manage deliveries to retailers.

During Mattel's busiest period, between August and December, Wincanton can expect to deliver in excess of 1.5 million cases.

David Rhodes, northern eastern supply chain director at Mattel, says: "Wincanton has been our trusted logistics partner since 1999. Wincanton's ability to handle peaks in activity over the Christmas trading period is crucial to our business."

Chris Kingshott, MD for manufacturing at Wincanton says the deal renewal will allow it to invest further in the Corby DC.
