Maxi Haulage buys trailers from Tiger

Maxi Haulage has taken its first delivery of 40 unique 13.6m tri-axle, step-frame fixed double-deck trailers from Tiger Trailers that will be used to transport retail cages between the UK and Ireland.

Tiger designed the trailer with a flat lower deck while meeting the 4.65m Irish height restrictions. The design saw the manufacturer move away from independent suspension - the only way such trailers were previously able to run low enough - to reduce damage.

There are gates on the neck of the trailers to secure all available load space and a sloping rear floor to make loading and unloading easier. Maxi Haulage general manager Andy McGuire said it has resulted in an increased capacity of seven cages, or 10%.

“In the past, the 4.65m trailers we’ve taken to Ireland have included wheel boxes in the load space on the lower deck”, he said. “We wanted this to be flat so we could carry more cages per load.”
