Mercedes-Benz dealer Intercounty Truck & Van have invested £50,000 in new equipment to cut vehicle downtime and improve efficiencies at its Wellingborough head office.

Most of the cash has been spent on the 24-hour workshop, where a new floor has been laid a 'rolling road' commercial vehicle brake tester.

Intercounty is the latest company to bring that process in-house, which cuts on journey time when it took the vehicles to a third party. Service and Parts receptions have also been revamped.

Aftersales director Martyn Clipston says: "It's very gratifying to be investing in our facilities, especially at a time when so many other businesses are unable to do likewise, often because of a lack of finance.

"Ours is a pressurised industry in which many operators must deliver goods day and night to strict deadlines, so they are entitled to expect the very highest levels of service. The improvements we have made are already benefiting customers, as well as the staff who work in these areas.

"Our front counters and waiting room now look a lot smarter and more professional, and the same is true of our workshop. The new floor and brake tester have allowed us to improve efficiency and ensure that vehicles with us for servicing or repair, are back on the road and earning money for their operators even more rapidly than was previously the case.

"At Intercounty we are committed to providing our customers with a 'one-stop shop' service, so we plan now to extend the colour-coded floor system to other workshops within the group."

Jobs a good un.
