Parcel firm City Link has stunned industry watchers with the shock announcement that MD Stuart Godman has left the firm by mutual consent.
Alan Brown, CEO of Rentokil Initial, City Link's parent company, has assumed day-to-day management responsibility for City Link until a successor is appointed.
The firm has given no reason for the departure of the man most people credit with reversing City Link's dire loss-making position. However, the company's statement suggests that the firm's revival may have plateaued.
It says: "The difficult trading conditions experienced by the business in Q3 are continuing in the run-up to Christmas and as a result City Link's full-year performance is unlikely to improve upon the prior year.
"While the severe weather conditions over the last two weeks have had some impact, service levels have otherwise remained excellent as a result of continuing investment in technology and improvements to the network infrastructure."
Below is a recent video interview with Godman, where he talks about the firm's improved customer service.
