Southampton-based Meachers Group says its freight forwarding arm, Oast Agencies, will help it secure significant business opportunities. Commercial director Gary Whittle says: "Oast is somewhat of a USP, not many companies have the range of services that we offer.

"Being able to provide facilities management and total supply chain management is going to be part of our future in the longer term."

His comments come on the back of the firm's renewal of a contract with Amari Plastics that will see Oast handling the importation and customs clearance of containerised products from Amari. The boxes will then be moved from Southampton Container Terminal to Meachers' nearby Nursling site for devanning and storage or onward delivery.

Whittle adds: "It's something we can do that not many others can point at. It's that kind of area where we are being most successful."
