Caledonian Truck & Van has supplied Aberdeen-based Grampian Continental with three Actros 2563 tractor units, its first Mercedes-Benz trucks.
The air conditioned vehicles, that produce 625hp, include GigaSpace cabs, microwaves, fridges, freezers, TVs, snow chains as well as Active Brake Assist 4 and Proximity Control Assist systems.
They include sensors that constantly monitor the condition of the vehicles, meaning the dealer can order parts in advance and allocate sufficient time to complete all tasks in a single visit.
These sensors can also predict breakdowns before they happen. The vehicles, which come with three-year R&M contracts from the dealer, will be used to service the oil, gas, wind and wave renewable energy industries in countries including Greece, Bulgaria and Romania.
Grampian Continental director Neil Bremner said: “Optimum utilisation is the crucial factor as far as these trucks are concerned, we need to keep them out on the road and earning. We spoke to other operators locally who were already running Actros, their feedback in terms of the vehicle’s performance, cost-effectiveness and reliability was entirely positive.
“We therefore decided it was time to give Mercedes-Benz a chance to show us what they can do.”
