The Mercedes-Benz Vario heavy-duty van is set to receive a powertrain upgrade to meet stricter emissions targets.

Using the same 4.25-litre four-cylinder unit as in the Atego, the Vario now features SCR AdBlue technology that, the manufacturer claims, will help the vehicle meet Euro-6 standards.

The powerplant will be available in three power outputs: 136hp, 150hp and 177hp, while GVW still remains at 7.5 tonnes with a maximum permissible payload of 4.2 tonnes and load volume of up to 17.4m3.

A spokesman for Mercedes-Benz says: "The upgrading of the Vario's powertrain gives the vehicle a new lease of life and also gives it a future in the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle line-up."
