Michelin has launched two new truck tyres that they claim combine fuel savings with high mileage. The Michelin is for long-haul applications while the Michelin X Multi Energy 2 has been designed for regional transport.
The X Line Energy 3 is available for steer and drive axles and will be produced in 315/60 R 22.5 and 295/60 R 22.5 sizes. They are said to be the first long-haul 60 series tyres with an A-rating for fuel efficiency saving an average of 0.62 litres of fuel per 100km (62 miles).
As a result, Michelin says an average fleet can save between £588 and £1847 per truck over an annual distance of 150,000km. As well as being more fuel efficient the tyre’s compound also produces 3.4kg less tyre debris than other premium segment competitors as it wears. Overall life has increased by 3%, and lateral grip is also 4.42% better when new and 2.02% better when worn when compared with the previous range.
The Michelin X Multi Energy 2 is also produced for steer and drive axles in 315/70 R22.5 and 315/80 R22.5 sizes. Like the X Line Energy 3 the X Multi Energy 2 is claimed to reduce fuel consumption with a 1.2 litre saving compared to the previous X Multi Energy, an estimated annual saving of up to £1500 per year.
They will also produce up to half a tonne less CO2 per 100,000km and produce 7.1kg less tyre abrasions over a 54,000km distance compared to competitor tyres. Michelin has improved the lateral grip by 5.06% when new and by 5.67% when worn, compared to the previous range.
Also announced at the show were improvements to Michelin Connected Mobility, a holistic tyre maintenance system to reduce vehicle downtime. New, automated solutions for predictive maintenance and alerts, including Michelin Smart Predictive Tire, launched in the UK this summer, are claimed to carbon footprint by 12%.
