Milence, the joint charging network venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, has begun work on its first UK charging hub. The site is located in Immingham at the Able Humber Port (AHP) on the east coast close to the M180, M18, and M1. With construction now underway, the site is expected to be operational following finalisation of the first phase in November this year.

The site is strategically positioned close to road, rail and shipping links so HGVs and commercial vehicles working in and around the port will be able to charge. The port is being developed with the Able Energy Park (AEP) which will provide off-shore wind and renewable energy.

Peter Stephenson, founder and executive chairman of AHP said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Milence to Able Humber Port to develop one of the first electric charging HGV hubs in the UK. This is an exciting step forward in supporting the decarbonising of the Humber Ports and assisting Able Humber Port and the region transition towards net zero.”

The hub will be the first of its kind to launch in the UK. The project will be completed in multiple phases so the site can go live as quickly as possible. Initial development will see eight bays supported by four combined charging systems (CCS) chargers. As well as the charging equipment, drivers will have access to sanitary facilities and vending machines for drinks and snacks. The final stage will see more CCS chargers installed along with megawatt charging system (MCS) chargers to improve charging speeds and capacity.

Anja van Niersen, CEO at Milence: “Expanding into the UK with our first charging hub in Immingham represents a significant milestone for Milence. This strategic location not only enhances our ability to support the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions but also aligns with our commitment to driving the future of green logistics across Europe.”
