Pallets and parcels specialist Millbray Contracts says it has returned to pre-recession success as more customers seek a single point of contact for their logistics needs.

The Hainault, Essex-based firm says since December 2009 it has experienced growth rates similar to those seen pre-recession, including a 30% turnover rise in March compared with March 2009. For the same period, volumes were up 11%.

Millbray is a member of APC Overnight and pallet network Fortec, delivering approximately 750 consignments daily to Ilford, Romford. Walthamstow, Tottenham and other areas in north-east London, while putting 1,400 pallets and parcels into APC's West Midlands hub and Fortec's Watford Gap facility.

MD Phil Gee tells Motor Transport: "We have won clients that are looking for a one-stop-shop for parcels, pallets and overseas distribution. This cuts their paperwork and costs.

"I can only see Millbray growing as more customers look to streamline their logistics."

He also says the fact that Fortec is owned by Geodis has helped it to win more customers who desire "a trusted and reliable partner for international deliveries".

Meanwhile, he adds: "We are fast becoming a preferred carrier for home deliveries, as we will make up to three delivery attempts to an address for no extra charge. We will absorb the cost, but customers don't really abuse this, and instead repeatedly use us and spread by word of mouth how professional we are."

To cope with the current growth rate, Millbray is taking delivery of three new HGVs to complement its 20-strong truck and van fleet. However, the firm will also continue to use a pool of subcontractors to supplement its own vehicles.

Gee concludes: "Although we are doing well, I want to grow at a natural pace rather than investing too quickly and heavily in new sites and people, because like everybody else, although we can see the green shoots of recovery, we still want to proceed with caution."
