The Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) says its mp connect digital driver card is gaining momentum and will be rolled out across several major operators’ sites by the end of the year.
Cemex will insist that drivers present an mp connect card in order to gain entry to any of its sites, while Breedon is also using the card across its UK sites.
Already operational at more than 120 sites, the Mineral Products Association is recommending that all of its members use the card which provides a real-time check on the qualifications and eligibility of a driver entering a site, while also eliminating the need for multiple cards or additional paperwork. By presenting the card at a card reader, the site staff can see the various accreditations the driver has and with a simple green or red colour coding system be able to quickly identify if the driver is permitted on to the site.
John Wilkinson, CEO of MPQC said, “Before launching mp connect, we actively canvassed the sector to determine the type of product which would make sites safer by enabling the logistics teams on sites to know instantly the training and certification status of drivers entering their sites. We knew we had to develop a simple, digital platform using accurate, up to the minute information on skills and competencies. mp connect is that much-welcomed result.”
The card costs £30 per year and will also give card holders updates and safety “nudges” when certification is due to expire.
