MLL Telecoms has purchased 11 Toyota Hilux GR Sport II HL3 double-cabs for its field engineering department, which is responsible for the firm's vast telecommunications network of fixed and wireless links.

MLL, which previously outsourced its maintenance fleet, says it needed robust vehicles capable of "reaching remote locations 24-hours a day, seven days a week".

The 3.0-litre diesel Hilux with manual transmission emits 219g/km of CO2 and as Gary Marven, chief operations officer, says: "It is important to MLL that we run the most environmentally friendly vehicles as practically possible."

The company adds that the new Hilux gives them and their engineers more flexibility to adapt to the changing requirements of its customers as the new pickups are "faster and quieter" than the vehicles they've replaced.

All 11 Toyota vehicles have been supplied on a three-year contract hire from Leaseplan and are expected to average 30,000 miles a year.
