Although 2011 saw Eddie Stobart make a triumphant return to our TV screens via Channel 5’s Trucks & Trailers, as well as striking a dramatic £90m deal to buy-out its biomass joint-venture, and launching the first Stobart Fest, it will also be remembered, sadly, as the year Edward Stobart passed away. 2. William Stobart and David Irlam to step down from Stobart board
In March it was revealed that William Stobart and David Irlam would step down from the PLC’s main board to allow them to focus on day-to-day operations. The former continues as chief operating officer while the latter heads business development.

3. Stobart to axe Tesco Milton Keynes jobs
Stobart Group revealed it was shedding jobs it had inherited from Tesco when it took control of its Fenny Lock, Milton Keynes, DC in December.

4. Over 100 jobs to go at Stobart Group
Stobart Group is making more than a hundred driver redundancies across three of its depots as it pursues a cost-cutting strategy.

5. Edward Stobart passes away aged 56
The sad news in March that road transport icon Edward Stobart, son of Eddie Stobart, had passed away at the age of 56.

6. TDG price too high says Stobart
Chief executive Andrew Tinkler revealed to CM that TDG had been touted to the business ahead of its acquisition by Norbert Dentressangle in December 2010 and was “too expensive” to buy.

7. Stobart driver killed in bridge accident
A Stobart Group driver died in November following an accident where the lorry he was driving fell from a bridge onto the westbound carriageway of the M56.

8. Stobart ready to go longer
Ahead of the Department for Transport revealing that Eddie Stobart had been granted 90 longer semi-trailers to trial, the logistics giant revealed its SDC-engineered prototype to CM.

9. Stobart truck fire under investigation
Investigation launched after a Scania truck fire at the group’s Crick, Northamptonshire, depot.

10. Stobart signs £90m deal after revealing revenue rise
Eddie Stobart reveals it will be buying out its joint-venture with A.W. Jenkinson, Stobart Biomass Products. The  move puts A.W. Jenkinson principal Allan Jenkinson on the board and in line for £7.7m as part of a share reward scheme.
