Moto is trialling a scheme where lorry drivers can order hot food when they arrive at one of its motorway service areas.
The trial takes place at Ferrybridge MSA, off the A1(M) and M62. Food is prepared in a ‘dark kitchen’ using facilities that provided hot food for Moto’s own brands Arlo and EDC.
“Under the system, a driver will pay for his overnight parking at WH Smith and the receipt can then be used to order from a displayed menu, using a free telephone. The boxed food will then be delivered to a collection point outside WH Smith within 20 minutes,” explained Moto CEO Ken McMeikan (pictured).
If successful, the scheme will be rolled-out to other sites where there is a demand. He continued: “The trial at Ferrybridge offers free food between 4pm and 9pm to gauge what the demand might be, and there is the possibility it could provide free hot food for HGV drivers parking overnight at Moto sites.”
Food vouchers are no longer being offered until all the catering brands are open again. He said: “Vouchers already issued can be redeemed when the catering brands reopen and will honour the food voucher indefinitely.”
