Lancashire trailer-maker Munro Commercials believes better health and safety standards and productivity levels will allow its new moving floor trailer to make inroads into the aggregate and asphalt tipper market at the expense of rigids.
John Draper, sales and demonstration coordinator, says the all-aluminium triaxle trailer is safer because the body doesn't need to be raised, potentially exposing the vehicle to rollover incidents or to overhead cables.
Moving floor trailers can also go in to quarries or road building projects, something tipper trailers are banned from doing, he says. "You can get 20 tonnes on an eight-wheeler but you can get 28 tonnes in the moving floor trailer," he says.
The 10.26m-long trailer has a full-length chassis, uses the Keith Walking Floor Running Floor II, is controlled by a wireless handheld control, and weighs in at 7,800kg. The demonstration trailer also has the optional Munro Universal Cleanout system, which removes debris and stops cross-load contamination.
