Phelan Haulage has taken delivery of a DAF XG 530 tractor unit mounted with a HIAB X-HIPRO 858 EP-6 crane. Supplied by MV Commercial, at its full 16m reach, the crane has a four-tonne lifting capacity. The new unit will support the company in expanding its heavy load operation in the north east of England and Scotland from its Durham base.

Phelan Haulage director, Peter Phelan, said: “It’s a very impressive bit of kit and the crane is an absolute monster – to safely lift that amount of weight at that reach is exceptional. This unit has allowed our business to undertake jobs that require heavier lifts, improving our reputation as a high reach and high load HIAB crane truck specialist.”

The new unit will be put to work moving abnormal loads, telecom poles and shipping containers. The XG has a three-star DVS rating and is expected to cover 100,000km annually. Phelan Haulage runs an additional three crane trucks on its fleet.

Steven Cairns, Managing Director of MV Commercial, said: “The latest lineup of DAF XG crane trucks not only look incredible but also offer remarkable fuel economy, safety, and great driver features. Paired with our diverse range of crane and ancillary fitting options, these trucks are already experiencing significant demand.”

Phelan’s truck is the first XG unit supplied by MV Commercial as it expands its build programme to include the latest generation of DAF models.

Over the past 15 years Phelan Haulage has diversified its business to require different specialised vehicles. Its fleet includes an urban rear steer trailer with capacity up to 36m and HIAB crane trucks with demountable bodies which can be used as rigid vehicles. These vehicles can be used for small loads and restricted access sites. MV Commercial has been supplying Phelan Haulage with trucks and trailers for six years.
