Following its announcement that it has split up its operational base in Scotland, truck rental and sales business MV Commercial has revealed that it has invested more than ?2m in a new site on the edge of London.
The business had already spent more than ?1m restructuring its rental and sales operation in Livingston (CM 2 October), now it has acquired a 1.5-acre site just off Junction 9 of the M1 near Dunstable.
Its new premises will house both rental and sales. Steve Cairns, director, said the premises represent a real coup for the business.
“MV Commercial has a huge customer base around London for sales and hire. There is so much going on in that area and we feel we can really capitalise on it with our new facility,” he said.
The new premises is a hire and sales site with mobile fleet engineers. “It has a two-bay workshop, and employs a dozen people including three mechanics and four drivers,” he added.
MV Commercial bought Regal Truck Rental in Luton in 2005, and has since relocated to Leighton Buzzard and then Milton Keynes, where it rented land and offices from Newton Trailers, before moving to its own premises.
The term-hire fleet has increased to more than 750 vehicles just to keep pace with demand for both the firm’s new-build crane-mounted trucks and its more general fleet vehicles.
“We have 200 vehicles on order for the next 12 months,” he added.
Commercial Motor will run a wider interview with Steve Cairns in a forthcoming issue.
