Arthur Spriggs & Sons, based in Tewkesbury, has been appointed a parts and service agent for Isuzu Truck (UK).

Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck, said: “Isuzu Gloucester is ideally located and easily accessible, it is less than half a mile from the M5 corridor and is an important addition to our network. It will certainly help to enhance the support coverage available to our customers in this area.”

Names to keep an eye out for include the dealer principal, Chris Hodgson; the service manager, Andrew Barfield; and the parts manager, Nigel Butler.

No points for recognising the Arthur Spriggs & Sons’ name, it has more than 94 years turning wheels in road transport. The eponymous Arthur Spriggs started the company in 1918 with a “single lorry used for removals, transporting locally produced leather and collecting coal from the railways”, according to the website.

The website states that: the business was based in Higham Ferrers which is a small market town close to Rushden, Northamptonshire. Arthur had six children; his plan was for his sons Derek and Billy to join the business when they were old enough.

Sadly Billy was a Squadron Leader in the Air Force and was killed in the Second World War. Derek with the help of his wife Jean started to expand the business in the late 1950's. Jean was doing the accounts, while raising their five boys. The main bulk of the work was in and around the Rushden area. In the early 1990's a depot was set up in Gloucestershire.

Child added: “With a three-acre site near Tewkesbury, the family-run company has an extensive eight-bay commercial vehicle workshop, supported by three mobile service vans and a comprehensive parts operation. This facility also offers full ATF (‘Authorised Testing Facility’) for the Tewkesbury, Worcester and Gloucester areas, as well as a tachograph centre and brake testing facility.”
