PACCAR Parts has announced the introduction of PACCAR Power Solutions. The new division is designed to support customers with products and services in their transition to electric power.
DAF offers a range of electric trucks from the 12-tonne XB Electric with ranges up to 350km to the XD and XF Electric models with ranges up to 500km to suit national and long-haul applications. DAF’s first all-electric truck was launched in 2018.
While operators can opt for new electric trucks, these vehicles need to be supported by a robust energy system and charging facilities. PACCAR Power Solutions will work with customers to understand fleet needs and site limitations such as grid capacity. The assessment process will include looking at fleet size, vehicle application, charging schedules, peak energy demands, energy rates and potential for self-generated electricity.
Michael van Rijen, head of PACCAR Power Solutions said: “After this analysis, we align the customer’s ambitions, needs, and expectations with the latest insights and technologies. Our solutions are robust, tailored-made, cost-efficient, and ready for the future.”
Once the best solution is established, PACCAR Power Solutions can manage the installation of the specific systems required. This could include solar panels, a battery energy storage system, advanced energy management systems and high-speed chargers. Van Rijen added: “Our solutions can be prepared to automatically trade self-generated solar energy or allow customers to sell their self-generated and on-site stored energy at competitive rates to others. Of course, solutions can also consist solely of charging stations, for example.”
In accordance with the customer’s unique situation and company sustainability targets PACCAR Power Solutions is designed to be a collaborative approach to support this transition to electric. Van Rijen said: “With our extensive consultancy and hardware portfolio, PACCAR Power Solutions, together with DAF Trucks, is paving the way for a robust business model for sustainable road transport.”
