Crossroads Truck and Bus has supplied timber staircase producer GD Woodworking with a new Volvo FE rigid.

The Rotherham-based company’s 18-tonner, with 6800mm wheelbase, features a D8K engine that produces 250hp, steel-suspended, eight-tonne front axle and an air-suspended, 13-tonne drive axle.

There is also EBS+, traction control and hill hold, and a 32-foot curtain-sided body manufactured by Micra Truck Bodies. The vehicle includes a five-year Volvo service contract with Crossroads Truck and Bus in Rotherham, next door to the GD Woodworking facility.

Mark Ducker, factory manager at GD Woodworking, said: “We took delivery of our first Volvo FE rigid last October and are extremely happy with its performance levels, in addition to the available load space and payload capacity.

“Our drivers rate Volvo highly and our business is located right next to Crossroads Truck and Bus. That close proximity is superb, so we have vehicles serviced in the evening, which means no loss of productivity, as our factory turns out around 90 flights (of stairs) per day.”
