Newgistics plans future expansion

Llanelli-based freight forwarder Newgistics Freight Solutions has completed a management buyout from Sandrair International. Details of the deal have not been released, but director Jon Newington and his wife received financial backing from NatWest and help in finalising the contract from the Wales Co-operative centre.

Speaking to CM, Newington says he approached the director of Sandrair to propose the MBO and his idea was approved. Newgistics employs 10 staff and runs one 18t curtainsider and three vans. "While the current economic climate is not ideal for growing the business, I hope to be able to expand given time," Newington says.

DX acquires two Business Direct divisions

DX Group has acquired some of the assets of Business Direct (BD) after the Rugby-based express delivery firm entered administration at the end of last month. Johal Dairies' licence cut

Wolverhampton-based Johal Dairies has had it licence cut from 20 vehicles to 15 as a result of drivers' hours and tachograph breaches, as well as overloading and vehicle maintenance record convictions.The company and nine of its drivers (from India and Lithuania) were called before West Midland Deputy Traffic Commissioner Roger Seymour. The hearing revealed that director Surbjit Singh Johal had admitted during a VOSA examination that nobody in the firm had knowledge of drivers' hours rules.

C&C's Hydra Wing proves an international hit

West Yorkshire-based C&C Hydraulics has secured four exports to Egypt for environmental services firm Veolia of its Hydra Wing netting system, with the promise of 16 more. The Hydra Wing system operates from actuators that lift the cover frame 270o from the side of the trailer, or rigid, to cover the load from a remote-control unit. Ian Couch, C&C managing director, says the company is producing up to 20 systems a month, of which half are heading overseas.
