NFT Distribution buys Volvo FM Tractive units

Alfreton-based temperature-controlled specialist NFT Distribution has taken delivery of 30 Volvo FM tractor units, all with Euro 5 engines. The firm has invested almost £3m in new vehicles as it strives to improve its environmental performance.

NFT national fleet engineer David Seaton says: "We have pledged to upgrade our shared user network vehicle fleet every two years, with half the 100-vehicle fleet being changed each year to accommodate this."

The green strategy also encompasses alternative fuels and the firm is running its fleet on a 5% bio-fuel mix. It has also limited its vehicles to 52mph to cut fuel consumption.

Cost of raw materials affects AdBlue prices

The price of AdBlue could surge by a minimum of 8%, warns GreenChem, one of Europe's leading suppliers of the additive. Hauliers get funding for rail services

The Scottish government has handed out more than £3m in grants to two haulage companies wanting to start new rail freight services. Transport minister Stewart Stevenson has awarded the Stobart Group a £525,000 Freight Facilities Grant (FFG) for 70 new curtain-sided inter-modal units on its new rail freight service for Tesco between Grangemouth and Inverness. In addition, Stobart will get £457,000 in Rail Environmental Benefit Procurement Scheme (REPS) funding to help with running costs.
