Norbert Dentressangle (ND) has signed a three-year contract extension with Daikin, for the UK warehousing and distribution of the Belgian-owned company's heating and ventilation products.
The operation will be transferred from Medway, Kent, to an 80,000ft² space within ND's new shared-user facility in nearby Aylesford, where the logistics giant will receive containers from Daikin's manufacturing plants in Belgium, Czech Republic and the Far East.
ND will be responsible for unloading, palletisation, storage, picking and distribution of products throughout the UK and Ireland, mainly on a day-one for day-two basis; it will also handle the trunking operation from the Port of Felixstowe.
Working with Daikin UK since 2005, ND adds that specialist services have also been provided as part of this latest distribution deal, due to the large, heavy nature of the goods. These include pre-delivery customer calls, two-man deliveries and the operation of heavy lifting equipment and disposal of packaging.
The French-owned company is also responsible for the delivery of aftermarket parts to engineers and customers, primarily via parcel carrier, as well as the inspection of returns and the refurbishment of products.
Alison Jones, supply chain manager, Daikin UK, says: “By working with Norbert Dentressangle at the new location in Aylesford, we have the opportunity to achieve a better logistical flow in our warehouse operations that provides us with all the resources we need to ensure maximum performance at the distribution stage.”
