Light CV rental firm Northgate Vehicle Hire has completed the acquisition of Hampsons Self Drive Hire for an undisclosed sum. Hampsons will continue as a stand-alone business within the Northgate family. It operates 1,600 CVs from nine locations across the UK.

Northgate has also reported a 6.4% increase in revenues to £278.9m and a 16% rise in pre-tax profits to £43.9m in the six months to 31 October. Despite a restructuring programme, revenue for the UK operation remained flat this is attributed to a static market. Revenue in Spain increased by 20% due to a 17% increase in fleet size and an improving rental market. Chief executive Steve Smith says trading in both the UK and Spain is "in line with expectations".
