Jim Sanderson, founder of S&S Distribution, passed away suddenly but peacefully on the evening of Tuesday 2 November.

He founded S&S Services in 1970 in Tunbridge Wells with one second-hand red Ford Thames Trader. Working with his wife Dorothy and two of his three sons, David and Ken, he built the business into one of the largest local employers.

The company had premises in Southborough and Tunbridge Wells before moving to Tonbridge in the early 1980s.

In 1986, Jim completed the purchase of an 8-acre site in Vale Road, Tonbridge. He then formed a building company and over the next 10 years built and extended warehouses, offices and workshops.

S&S Distribution now employs more than 110 people and provides transport and warehousing for local and national companies.

His funeral took place on Monday 22 November at St Mark's Church, Tunbridge Wells.

He was carried from the business he built by an S&S Distribution lorry, dressed with flowers and a large banner.
