Online retailer Ocado is expected to finalise the acquisition of a multimillion-pound Staffordshire DC later this week.

The 35-acre site on the Birch Coppice Business Park in Tamworth is expected to be sold for around £16.5m, Roadtransport.com understands.

Ocado has already submitted planning permission for a 350,000ft2 facility at the site, which would be capable of handling up to 200,000 orders a week.

Approximately 2,000 jobs would be created at the site, which newly floated Ocado hopes to open by the end of 2012.

Roadtransport.com reported in June that one of the main reasons for Ocado's plans to float on the London Stock Exchange was the need for a new DC in the Midlands to cover the north of England, supporting the firm's existing site in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
