May 18, 2010

The CV Operator Show will be the first time in two years that the whole transport industry has come together to showcase the latest innovations in vehicle technology. But it will also be a great networking event, giving operators chance to meet up with suppliers old and new.

To introduce some of the key people who will be running stands at the show, we are asking them to take part in an informal One Minute Interview.

If you would like to take the One Minute Interview challenge please email steve.hobson@rbi.co.uk.

David Conman

Managing Director

What are you most looking forward to seeing at the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show?

Meeting new potential customers; it is also great to catch up with long-standing customers too.

What do you think visitors are going to be looking for at the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show?

Ideas and inspiration.

What do you hope to gain from the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show?

Feedback from our existing customers and new opportunities.

How did you get into the industry?

By chance - I was offered a job on leaving school as a semi-skilled bodybuilder.

Who do you admire in the road transport industry?

To be honest, the vast majority of people who work within it.

How do you see the industry in the next five years?

I am optimistic; I believe the industry will emerge from this downturn leaner and stronger.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

When faced with a stressful or potentially confrontational situation – “don’t react, respond.”

If you could have a 60-minute chat with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be?

My wife! What with the business and the children it would be nice to find an hour to spare!

What motivates you?

Coming first. I can’t help it - I'm just a highly competitive person.

What has been your most rewarding professional achievement to date?

Setting up Humberside Tail Lifts from scratch in 1990, launching and marketing parts4taillifts.com and building these businesses to what they are today.

What makes you proud to be part of the road transport industry?

The standard of service and customer care offered within the road transport repair industry. When compared to other industries I believe this is second to none.

Pundits say the road transport industry delivers the economy. Do you agree, and why?

As everything everybody buys is delivered by road, how can you argue against this?

Can you imagine a world without vans, trucks and trailers?

Yes I can, in 19 years' time. Hopefully lying on a beach somewhere hot!
