Morley, West Yorkshire-based tipper operator Mone Bros has taken delivery of five new P-Series Scania 8x4s, including four standard tippers and one tipper grab.

All are fitted with underfloor tipping gear from Harsh, which has been the operator’s sole supplier of tipping equipment for the past 35 years. Mone Bros director Phil Mone said Harsh’s strong and rigid stabilizer frame keeps the tipped body closely locked in line with the truck chassis and provides stability, safety and practicality.

He added: “A key bonus is that one man can change a ram on his own. The process takes less than two hours, whereas with a front-end gear the entire cylinder has to come apart with the use of a crane, which effectively means the truck is off the road for most of the day.

“A second benefit is that we’re using the same design of tipping gear across both our standard tippers and tipper grabs, which again makes things a lot easier for the workshop.”

Mone, who said the company is considering further additions to its fleet for later this year, added: “While they (Harsh underfloors) cost a bit more at the outset, that sum is repaid many times over during their working lives.”
