Pall-Ex opens new northern hub

Pall-Ex has invested in an additional hub in the North of England to compliment its flagship site in Ellistown, Leicestershire. Located five minutes from J44 of the M6, close to Carlisle, in Cumbria, the new hub increases the pallet network's coverage.

Tony Mellor, commercial director at Pall-Ex, tells MT: "It will enable us to provide a much improved service for freight travelling through the North and Scotland." The first pallet is scheduled to be transhipped through the northern hub at the end of the month.

Norwich says no to congestion charge

Norwich has abandoned plans to introduce a congestion charge after a study revealed that it wouldn't raise enough money to fund other transport schemes. However, the £500,000 report has strengthened the case for a Norwich Northern Distributor Road (NDR), which would cut city-centre travel time by 16%. The county and city councils used money from the government's transport innovation fund to investigate the potential of a congestion charge in the East Anglian city.
