Pelican Engineering adds Italian road sweeper franchise

Castleford-based dealer Pelican Engineering has added the Dulevo franchise, which offers Italian-built road sweepers, to its books.

Ken Grindrod, sales director for the dealership, says the Dulevo line-up offers road sweepers that are quicker and cleaner than traditional vehicles. "These road sweepers can sweep at 20mph, which is much faster than the traditional road sweeper that operates at around 5mpg," he says. This means a council would need fewer road sweepers.

The line up includes the 850 Mini, which can sweep in pedestrian areas, right through to the 5000 series for roads.

"It is also cleaner," says Grindrod. "Traditional road sweepers use a huge amount of water on the road to reduce the spread of dust particles. The operator then has to get rid of the dirty and contaminated water, which is very expensive.

"The Dulevo system uses less water and a filter system, so the dust (collected from the road) is dry when it comes out of the hopper, and can be put straight into a skip."

Interest has already been received from universities, councils and construction companies. "We do a lot of tendering with municipal vehicles, so we have a lot of contacts in local authority and council departments."

Pelican Engineering, which has BMC, DAF, Hino and MAN franchises, is expecting three demonstrators to arrive in mid-October.
