Temperature-controlled logistics firm Peter Green Chilled has experienced a surge of new business since joining the Absolute Temperature Network, with more anticipated.

Despite only entering the frozen logistics sector in 2008, the Shepton Mallet, Somerset-based firm says frozen storage at its 100,000ft2 Taunton facility, which opened in November 2009, is already at full capacity, although there is still room for chilled goods.

The firm was one of the first companies to join the Absolute Temperature Network, launched by David Price Food Services at the end of January to create a national network for chilled and frozen distribution, rivalling the existing Chillnet set-up.

As a result, Peter Green reveals that it has won a "big contract" with Romford Wholesale Meats and several other smaller deals.

Peter Green business development director James Howes says: "Our network is the chilled and frozen equivalent of a pallet network, and it has proved incredibly beneficial for us, saving us money and allowing us to offer a next-day service, which is attracting new business. I can only see us growing."

Last year, Peter Green's parent company, Fricor, acquired local rival Stotts Transport. Although the companies continue to trade as separate entities, Howes says they help each other out during busy periods.
