Plug and play range expanded for DAF Trucks

DAF has expanded its plug and play programme by increasing payloads up to 160kg and offering new hole pattern options for chassis rails. The manufacturer launched its bodybuilder-friendly programme last year. The programme was developed alongside 25 leading European bodybuilders to optimise the specifications for rigid vehicles.

The idea is to make it easier for the customer, builder and dealer to order the right plug and play option for the application. The plug and play programme is suited to specialist vehicle applications including hook lifts, cranes, tippers, mixers and skip loaders.

Cornelis van der Lee, director of rigid and vocational trucks at DAF Trucks, said: “These superstructures represent around 90% of the body market. Customers and dealers can now work together with almost any body builder to decide which universal ex-factory chassis preparations are required for an ultra-quick installation of a superstructure.

“DAF can take care not only of the chassis configurations but also of the correct placement of the connectors. This enables instant communication between the superstructure and the driver information panel on the dashboard and the switches in the cab. The result is much shorter lead times in the body building process, which in turn enhances the operational readiness of newly ordered new generation DAF rigid trucks. DAF is leading the way in body-builder-friendliness.”

As well as being more adaptable the rigid trucks include an aluminium rear underrun protection beam. It’s 28kg lighter than the previous steel iteration and more robust. Chassis holes were traditionally 60mm but can now be specified in 50mm holes to meet bodybuilder requirements. Hole patterns can also be adjusted to suit the bodybuilder’s needs.

Improving flexibility, almost all chassis components can be moved to suit the application. This includes the engine after treatment system. These changes help to streamline the process for the bodybuilder.
