Police in Northamptonshire say an operation to glean information from motorists about the death of a truck driver on the A45 has been successful. Laurence McCourt died after an incident near Wellingborough at 4am on Friday 27 July after he was hit by building materials allegedly thrown from the Doddington Road bridge by two youths.

A week later, on 3 August, the police undertook an operation to speak to drivers and pedestrians who were near the spot between 3am and 5am. Detective Inspector Neil McMahon says the police spoke to 30 people. "It was a worthwhile operation which has led to some further opportunities for us. One person in particular provided us with some interesting information."

Debris was found in the cab of McCourt's truck and a post-mortem established he had died as a result of impact injuries caused by building materials. Two boys - aged 14 and 15 - remain on delayed charge bail pending further inquiries. A 16-year-old arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Northamptonshire Police on 0845 3700 700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
