A 32-year-old Polish truck driver has been jailed for eight years at Canterbury Crown Court on 11 May for attempting to smuggle £4m worth of drugs through Dover in a lorry loaded with coffee machines.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) discovered 34 boxes of amphetamines and a quantity of cannabis in Gracjan Zientara's truck at Dover on 4 November 2008.

"This is a serious offence, and individuals will face lengthy jail terms. Our priority, in partnership with the UK Border Agency (UKBA), is to wipe out illegal drugs and their availability on city streets," says Malcolm Bragg, investigation assistant director at HMRC.
