The first four of eight new Volvos for Quattro have been delivered to the London-based company.
Supplied by Guili Chemello, transport solutions executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, the quartet includes three Volvo FH 540 6x2 tractor units and an FMX 430 8x4 rigid concrete mixer.
Eamon O’Loughlin, Quattro’s managing director, said: “Though we have predominantly run another manufacturer on our fleet in recent years, whenever the time comes for a fleet refresh or expansion, we always make sure we do our due diligence on what products are out there in the market. In the current climate, we found that Volvo offered the best balance of operational performance and cost-effectiveness.”
Quattro’s FH tractors are equipped with Euro-6(e) 540hp engines with 2,600Nm of torque and paired with Volvo’s 12-speed automated I-Shift gearbox. Inside, the vehicles have been specified with full leather upholstery, a fridge/freezer, TV and microwave. The trucks will be mated to cement tankers and work five days a week on regional jobs in the South East, covering around 120,000km annually.
The FMX has a 430hp engine with 2,050Nm of torque and the same 12-speed automated I-Shift transmission which evaluates speed, weight, road grade and torque demand. Mounted with a mixer body provided by SCHWINGStetter, it will be put to work on local jobs and is estimated to cover up to 30,000km a year.
Safety equipment for all four trucks include side collision avoidance support on both sides, forward collision warning with advanced emergency braking and lane keeping assistance.
The remaining three FHs and an FMX will join Quattro’s fleet of 70 vehicles in 2024. The company’s services include road haulage, waste management, plant hire, materials supply including ready-mixed concrete, and recycling.
