Quick questions: Commercial Motor meets Isuzu Truck UK’s marketing man Richard Waterworth

Commercial Motor aftermarket editor Roger Brown talks to head of sales and marketing at Isuzu Truck UK Richard Waterworth who reveals he loves skiing and enjoys watching his daughter compete in athletics events.

RB: What is your favourite holiday destination?
RW: Val d’Isère in the French alps. A group of friends introduced skiing to my family about eight years ago and we now have an annual trip at Christmas. The fresh air and beautiful scenery, along with the après-ski, makes this a firm favourite.

RB: What car do you drive?
RW: An Audi A6 estate. I have an estate so there is room for the dog.

RB: What are your hobbies?
RW: Watching rugby, as I have hung up my boots, and walks with our Labrador. My 15-year-old daughter is into athletics and this takes up a lot of weekends, but I enjoy watching her compete in events around the country.

RB: How did you get into the industry?
RW: Through my dad, who has been in it all his life. He heard that a sales administration role was available in the dealer group he worked for - Seddon Atkinson in Warrington. Nearly 30 years later I am still hooked.

RB: How can the industry encourage more young people to join?
RW: Tell youngsters our industry is very diverse and there are opportunities for all types of skill sets. People with a good work ethic and the ability to learn will gain a lot of satisfaction from it.

RB: What is the outlook for 2017?
RW: If we don’t have the mainstream media talking down the economy on a daily basis, I think we will have a good year. The 7.5-tonne market has seen Isuzu increase market share over the past few years and I am keen for this to continue.
