Commercial Motor aftermarket editor Roger Brown talks to Peter Ross, UK used and export sales director, Scania (Great Britain), who reveals he loves Formula One.
RB: What is your favourite holiday destination?
PR: That's a tough question to start with - I don’t take holidays!
RB: What car do you drive?
PR: An Audi Q7.
RB: What hobbies do you have?
PR: I'm a keen follower of Formula 1 and have been for as long as I can remember. I'm fortunate to have attended many races over the years, including as far afield as Malaysia.
RB: How did you get into the industry?
PR: I always had an interest in commercial vehicles and decided to try my hand at selling them. I think I must have found my niche as that was 40 years ago and I've been working in the industry ever since. My current job is a great role which takes me around the UK and abroad. Our latest development has been the opening of our new indoor used truck sales centre in Warrington. After just a few short weeks of operation, this is already proving to be immensely popular with operators.
RB: How can the industry encourage more young people to join?
PR: Give them an insight into the industry and display all the available and varied opportunities it has. Many of my colleagues now in senior roles at Scania started their careers with an apprenticeship, which in my view is an excellent way to begin.
RB: What is the outlook for the market over the next 12 months?
PR: It’s been a great start to 2017 and I would hope that the trend continues, which I believe it will.
