Commercial Motor aftermarket editor Roger Brown talks to financial services national sales manager at Scania (GB) Warren King who reveals he loves badminton and enjoys holidays in Gran Canaria.
RB: What is your favourite holiday destination?
WK: Maspalomas in Gran Canaria.
RB: What car do you drive?
WK: Audi Q5.
RB: What are your hobbies?
WK: Badminton, spending time with family and socialising with clients.
RB: How did you get into the industry?
WK: I started working in car finance for the Bank of Scotland and was there for 21 years. About six years ago Scania Finance offered me an opportunity to develop business in the South East and I was attracted to the company’s proactive approach to working with customers. I’m based in Milton Keynes and in the past three years have seen Scania Finance expand from 30 to 48 people.
RB: How can the industry encourage more young people to join?
WK: Run good graduate and apprenticeship schemes. Over the past couple of years Scania has been offering graduate and apprenticeship programmes in technical, sales, parts and finance roles. In the past two years we have employed three trainee sales managers in the finance division.
RB: What is the outlook for the rest of 2017?
WK: Many are concerned about Brexit, but we will offer financial solutions that provide customers with confidence. Our role is to make all Scanias affordable by understanding the finance needs of the customer and coming up with solutions. Time spent with customers has inspired new products like the one that allows customers to take a payment break when they need it most, giving them flexibility if they lose a driver or customer.
