LD Lines and Transeuropa Ferries are to run a Ramsgate-Ostend freight and passenger service together from 15 March.
The two companies will jointly operate the service, with Transeuropa focusing on freight traffic and shipping operations, while LD Lines will develop the tourist passenger business.
LD Lines' vessel the Norman Spirit will transfer to the route, which Transeuropa Ferries will operate on a long-term charter basis, and will be re-named the Ostend Spirit running two return sailings daily.
The ship has 2,000m of loading lanes for freight and tourist vehicles and up to 400 passengers.
Last year, LD Lines abandoned its experiment with a high-speed freight catamaran between Dover and Boulogne just four months after starting the service.
