A West Midlands-based operator has put its trust in a remarketed FH from Volvo Used Trucks Centre in Coventry, and is already looking to expand.
Based in Oldbury, RAP Transport runs two tractor units on a mixture of container work and general haulage. Chosen from the Economy range, the 62-plate FH13 6x2 is already showing its worth.
The combination of a 500hp D13C Euro-5 engine and I-Shift automated transmission is giving RAP the reliability and fuel economy it needs. Fitted with the Prestige cab trim, the team at Volvo Used Trucks Centre put it through an MoT inspection and service, and safety inspection before selling it to the haulier.
RAP Transport director Baljit Purewal is pleased with the vehicle. He said: “We chose Volvo because that’s what my partner and I drove at our last large company, and we liked them. It’s good, comfortable and it’s got everything there we need.
“We’ll be applying to expand our operation next month, the longer-term plan being to take the fleet up to 10 vehicles, growing both the container and general haulage sides of the business.”
Speaking to CM, Volvo Economy Centre manager Steven Worts said the FH13 was one of three identical trucks on contract with Warwick-based food manufacturer Tulip. “It is the second vehicle on RAP Transport’s fleet,” he explained, “and they bought it with a 30-day unlimited driveline warranty, which everyone gets irrespective of age and mileage.”
Purewal said that when it first got the truck it did have a minor problem. “The dealer was really good and sorted out things quickly to get it back on the road. That is something really important for a small haulage operation like ours,” he said.
