Romford warehousing and distribution company Dolphin Logistics has been bought by supply chain management company Redfern International. Terms of the acquisition are undisclosed, but it is intended that the two firms will trade independently. Redfern says Dolphin Logistics, which provides logistics for high street retailers and has an office in Hong Kong, will help give its customers "an enhanced service package".

It also says the deal will create a "market-leading provider of retail logistics services". Dolphin also has a growing contract warehousing division, which will give Redfern's customers an alternative to operating their own distribution centres.

Redfern CEO Nick Jones says: "We believe that this new partnership will have substantial benefits for customers, not least through creating the most experienced logistics management team in the industry." Industry analyst Transport Intelligence adds: "Despite uncertain economic prospects the global logistics and transportation industry is continuing to see high levels of mergers and acquisition activity." No-one from Dolphin Logistics was available for comment.
