More than 300 UK operators attended Renault Trucks' latest nationwide EV Roadshow, where they learned about zero-tailpipe-emission trucks.

“These aren’t sales events,” stressed James Charnock (pictured), commercial director for Renault Trucks, while attending the 11th and final 2023 roadshow which took place at RH Commercial Vehicles’ Nottingham site. “Instead they're about educating our customers on electric vehicles, and explaining what they can and can't do.”

The first Renault Trucks EV Roadshow took place in late 2021, coinciding with COP 26. It started in Glasgow and gradually worked its way around Great Britain, calling in on dealerships, where Renault Trucks’ employees presented to inquisitive operators. The main difference between that event and this latest one, is that now the presentations are conducted by dealership staff. “We've trained them in being able to articulate and explain what electric trucks can and can't do for their customers,” said Charnock. “So, what you'll see today in Nottingham is RH presenting to its local customers.”

What’s also changed in 18 months is the type of operator attending. While in 2021 it was predominantly the big nationwide fleets, on this occasion considerably more smaller operators showed-up. “We've had a real mix of companies this time,” explained Charnock. “We had them from the construction segment, some that run long-haul and are thinking about the future, others that specialise in urban distribution, some that are interested in our Vertellus programme, and a few that have already taken the first step.”

This year’s EV Road Show consisted of northern and southern legs, which took place simultaneously. Each event was attended by at least five E-Tech trucks and two electric Master vans. Just like last time, all of the battery-powered vehicles moved between the venues under their own steam, with no low-loaders being used.
