RentaMerc has invested £1.5m in a new fleet of 75 low-emission vans.

The Northern Irish CV hire firm has purchased 50 Sprinters and 25 Vitos, supplied by Mercedes-Benz Truck & Van (NI), to join its existing 500-strong fleet.

Chosen for their green credentials, the new Sprinters are 3.5-tonne 313CDI models in both long and medium length variants, while the 2.8-tonne Vitos are all long-bodied 113CDIs and 110CDIs.

Mercedes says the Euro 5-engined vans offer significant increases in fuel economy and power, as well as reductions in exhaust emissions compared with equivalent units from the previous ranges.

The vehicles were delivered at a handover ceremony at the Stormont Estate, attended by Northern Ireland Environment Minister Alex Attwood (pictured centre), who said: “Transport is one of the highest sources of emissions in Northern Ireland and the replacement of older vehicle stock with lower-emission, fuel-efficient vans will help in our efforts to meet greenhouse gas targets.”
