Repute intact for Welsh haulier

Traffic Commissioner (TC) for Wales Nick Jones (pictured) has issued Llanfyrnach, Pembrokeshire-based Adrian Poole & Sons International with a formal warning for operating more vehicles than the maximum number authorised on its O-licence.

However, at a public inquiry (PI) in Cardiff the TC said he accepted that the haulier – licensed to run nine vehicles and 10 trailers – had never used more than the maximum number on the road at any one time. The TC handed director and transport manager Adrian Poole, and his son, director and prospective transport manager Wayne Poole, a warning, but said their repute is intact.

At the PI Adrian Poole & Sons applied to increase its authorisation to 14 vehicles and 20 trailers but accepted an undertaking from the TC that it will not use or specify two of its trucks unless it increases its vehicle authorisation again. The new authorisation is for 12 vehicles and 20 trailers. Jones said the firm can add an extra operating centre at Commercial Garage, Spring Gardens, Whitland, Carmarthenshire, to its licence. He added: “The operator continues to be of good repute, to be of sufficient financial standing and be professionally competent.”
