Robert Bedford, managing director of West Yorkshire haulage firm Bedfords Transport, has died suddenly while on a business trip to Spain, aged 52. He was the third generation of the Bedford family to run the 80-year-old business, which operates from Birstall near Leeds.

His successor as md is Liam O'Connor, who praises Bedford's contribution to the firm's success: "We owe it to Robert to make sure that his legacy of Bedfords being synonymous with quality and service is in safe hands."
