Bodybuilder Roger Dyson has built the first Iveco X-Way recovery truck for the UK. Supplied by Sherwood Truck and Van, the 6x2 X-Way was sent to Roger Dyson’s bodybuilder partner Tevor. The Polish firm specialises in heavy-duty recovery bodybuilding and Roger Dyson is the sole UK distributor for Tevor vehicles. Completed in the UK, the vehicle will be put into service with Walls Truck Services.
Roger Dyson said: “We have built bodies for Iveco vehicles for a number of years based on the Daily and Eurocargo. Exploring what was possible with the highly capable Iveco X-Way was a natural progression, especially when factoring in the truck’s drivability, refinement, and ease of use. The Iveco X-Way’s performance combined with the option for three or four axles makes it an ideal heavy-duty recovery platform for our customers.”
The recovery vehicle has a GTW of 80-tonnes and is fitted with dual winches to lift up to 15.9-tonne. The X-Way is equipped with a 570hp engine so it can tow coaches or 44-tonne trucks. Hydraulic stabilisers and locking axle differentials were added to enable vehicles to be recovered in difficult scenarios. Axle load indicators also show weight distribution so the operator can safely tow. Tools and recovery equipment are housed in storage lockers along the side of the vehicle.
Vincenzo Nicolo, Iveco UK & ROI MD, said: “Roger Dyson has been responsible for some highly capable recovery vehicles, but this new Iveco X-Way is truly impressive. These trucks make the most of their tough Iveco DNA.”
Inside the sleeper cab has a memory foam bed, microwave, fridge, storage and charging ports. The driver has easy access to shortcut buttons to operate lighting and door locks from the bed. This truck is the first of six examples on order with a 100-tonne GTW example expected to be finalised soon too.
