Royal Mail has fallen victim to burglary in two separate incidents in which a total of four delivery vans were damaged and one stolen. Between 9 and 11 April, four Royal Mail vans were broken into at the logistics group's compound on Bridge End industrial estate, Egremont, Cumbria.

A police spokeswoman says that while the vans were damaged, nothing was stolen from them and no drivers were present. However, parcels including DVDs and Honda motorcycle equipment were stolen from a locked shed inside the compound.

Meanwhile, a Middlesbrough male was arrested following the theft of a Royal Mail van on the afternoon of 11 April outside shops in Birchington Avenue, Teesside.

The vehicle was found abandoned half an hour later at Pallister Court in Middlesbrough with some of its load missing. Anyone with information on either incident can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
